The library has digitized almost 6000 letters to and from Edvard Grieg. The collection contains letters from artists such as Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Ibsen and Bjørnson, as well as politicians, publishers, impressarios, friends and family. Many of the letters are transcribed and available in full text search.
In 1906, 10 months before his death, Edvard Grieg added a codicil to his will. In this will he and his wife, Nina, bequeathed his music manuscripts, articles and letters, printed music, books and other material to Bergen Public Library on condition that the library preserves them and makes them accessible to the population.
